Building evacuation practice with real emergency vehicles!

Alongside our educational goals for the children, our concern for their safety is crucially important. This is one reason why we support the Dubai "Buckle up in the back" campain, which encourages the installation of proper child seats in cars and the use of seat belts by children at all times.

We have also developed a careful emergency building evuacuation plan and in May we were delighted to be approached by the Civil Defence Department who wanted to plan and rehearse a full scale practice evacuation in the presence of firefighters and a full range of emergency vehicles. This proved to be an invaluable exercise, and one that will certainly help coordinate our evacuation procedures with the action of the emergency services. In the process of the drill a member of staff and a Grade 4 student were also "rescued". We learned a great deal that enabled us to refine our evacuation plans, our students saw an impressive display by a very professional firefighting team, and were then able to inspect a real fire engine after the all clear was given!
