Mission development at Jumeira Baccalaureate School, 2010 - 2012 Before JBS first opened in September 2010, the governing board approved what was described as a "Foundation Mission Statement" which has helped to guide our developed in the first 18 months of the school's operation. It was felt that once our community had become more established, and after we had opened the secondary school, we would work together as a community to write our longer term mission. This process got underway in October 2011, with parent, staff and governing representatives working on a a first draft, to be presented to the community for scrutiny an comment in Semester 1, 2011 - 12, and which we hope to have finalised, approved by the Board and published by the start of Semester 2.
Mission Statements
Foundation Mission
1. In the first year of our operation we will establish a school which will immediately
- establish a community of empowered learners in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust
- inspire every student to learn, grow, and accomplish individualised academic, social and vocational goals in a safe and positive environment
2. During our foundation year, we will work with our new community to develop the long term mission which will address our desire to
- develop young men and women with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs
- stress the total development of each child: spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical
- develop our students as responsible and productive citizens
- encourage lifelong learning by all members of our community
- recognise that each child is an individual; that all children are creative; that all children need to be inspired. We emphasize the social, emotional, physical, intellectual development of each child.
- create a challenging learning environment that encourages creativity, inquiry and service.
- provide a safe, caring, creative and inquiring environment where students can best develop the skills and character necessary to rejoin their communities and the world with success.
- provide individualized education that addresses students' unique learning styles, cultivates independent thought, and promotes the building of character, enabling them to contribute to their communities in meaningful and positive ways.
