EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Developing your child’s universal skills

Philosophy that education goes beyond limitations

JBS supports the philosophy that education goes beyond the limitations of the classroom. As a result, we have a varied and exciting range of sporting, creative, cultural and aesthetic activities.

The health and safety of the JBS community is our first and main priority during this current climate and the school is taking every precaution to ensure the health and safety of every person who enters the campus.

Developing skills beyond our core curriculum.

Working with over 20 of Dubai’s top academies, we encourage our students to engage with the extra-curricular opportunities across academic, art, performance, language, design and sporting activities, all of which are focused around a bespoke learning journey and outcome where students are likely to develop their skills specific to that activity as well as a range of universal skills which are increasingly relevant like:

These skills play a vital role in generating a positive, nurturing environment that is so important for students to succeed academically as well as in their life beyond JBS. Attending extra-curricular academies have successfully helped pupils gain placement at some of the world’s top universities. It is evident that more and more universities look beyond just the academic grades and are also interested in the extra-curricular activities the applicants were involved in. A focus on resilience and perseverance has been noted to gauge if applicants have the capacity to complete some of the universities more challenging degree courses.

Term 2

Term 3

All of our external providers offering their programmes at JBS are carefully considered, from the policies and precautions they are taking to ensure the safe operation of the programme and the safety of the students to how each individual programme can help the student grow and improve their confidence, knowledge, health and well-being.

After School Activities

Excellent pathway to develop passion

JBS also facilitates an After School Activities programme hosted by many of Dubai’s top sports academies for children, language learning centres for adults and children and many more. These create an excellent pathway for pupils wanting to develop their passion and extracurricular skills further. Like the external EAS offerings these are independently run and there is a fee for signing up.

Trips and Excursions

Our field trips allow students to experience the many wonderful opportunities available within Dubai and the UAE. Field trips could include visits to local places of interest and landmarks to learn about the heritage and culture of the UAE, specialist day tours which complement the learning in our units of inquiry in PYP, attending workshops on topics such as leadership and psychology or to explore innovative spaces that expand our students’ perception of science and design.

In-country residential camps is an important event on our calendar and take place annually for students in Grades 3 to 10. Leadership skills and team building are at the forefront of the learning journey.

Our secondary students participate in academic trips such as Model United Nations, which are held both locally and internationally, preparing students for careers in International Relations, politics and debate. For the risk-takers, our annual ski trip allows students to experience adrenalin sports, learn new skills and understand new and different cultures. An integral part of all our IB programmes is CASL (Creativity, Action, Service and Learning). To complement the CASL Program, we run an annual CASL trip in partnership with Camp International to locations such as China, Kenya and Sri Lanka where students work with camp directors to help the surrounding communities and their environments.

Bi-annually we run a sports tour for our gifted and talented sports team players. To date, we have toured England and Singapore, playing a series of fixtures in sports such as Netball and Football against fellow international schools whilst immersing ourselves in local cultures.
